Overview: The Safety Manager is responsible for delivering expert safety and health guidance to both production and corporate teams. This role involves the development of safety initiatives and objectives, as well as the coordination of training programs aimed at enhancing workplace safety. The Safety Manager ensures adherence to safety regulations and provides essential support to maintain compliance with federal and state safety standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Collaborates with teams across engineering, human resources, legal, operations, and research and development.
  2. Offers technical safety and health guidance to production and corporate personnel.
  3. Drafts comprehensive safety and health policies and programs.
  4. Maintains and updates safety databases, including ISN and Avetta, along with all internal databases.
  5. Identifies safety training requirements and develops corresponding training programs.
  6. Organizes and plans the agenda for the annual companywide training day.
  7. Establishes annual safety and health objectives for the organization.
  8. Engages in reviews of new products and processes, including hazard analyses and operator training.
  9. Assists corporate and plant engineering in implementing controls to mitigate safety and health risks.

Additional Responsibilities:

  1. Guides plant personnel in selecting suitable personal protective equipment.
  2. Maintains a corporate safety library containing resources such as videos, regulations, and reference manuals.
  3. Enhances safety and health awareness through internal communications, newsletters, and specialized training programs.

Assists in executing a hazard communication program and preparing necessary reports.

  1. Reviews operational procedures and records, providing input on safety and health considerations.
  2. Stays informed about federal and state occupational safety and health regulations, monitoring changes as they arise.
  3. Provides technical assistance to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations.

Advises manufacturing plants and corporate staff about regulatory changes that require compliance.

  1. Conducts audits of manufacturing practices and records to verify adherence to safety programs and regulations.
  2. Monitors incidents of lost-time injuries and worker's compensation claims.
  3. Reviews safety inspection reports and follows up as necessary.
  4. Examines injury and non-injury incident investigation reports and takes appropriate follow-up actions.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position includes direct supervisory responsibilities and the management of the safety program, which encompasses directing safety-related activities. The Safety Manager also serves as a coach and mentor for other departmental positions.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's degree in safety science, engineering, or a related field; and
  2. A minimum of five years of experience in a safety management role or higher.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions provided in written, oral, or diagram form. Capable of addressing problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
