Position Overview

The Princeton University Library is in search of a dedicated and experienced professional with a strong commitment to service excellence to join the Fulfillment Services team. This role is based in the Firestone Library and reports directly to the Manager of Fulfillment Services. The successful candidate will oversee a team of four staff members responsible for managing reserve services and will act as a resource for reserve staff across various library branches.

As one of the premier research libraries globally, Princeton University Library boasts a knowledgeable staff of 300 across a central library, nine specialized branches, and three storage facilities. The library serves a diverse community of 5,200 undergraduates, 2,700 graduate students, 1,200 faculty members, and numerous visiting scholars, with holdings that include over 7 million printed volumes, 5 million manuscripts, 2 million non-print items, and extensive digital collections.

Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:45 AM to 5:00 PM; Summer hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary.

Key Responsibilities

The Library is seeking a service-oriented individual with substantial experience in course reserves for this role within the Fulfillment Services unit. The Manager of Course Reserves Operations will supervise four direct reports and take a leadership role in guiding the team. Responsibilities include:

  • Recruiting, hiring, training, and onboarding new staff and student workers.
  • Providing ongoing training, feedback, and support to ensure efficient and timely course reserve services.
  • Ensuring compliance with library policies and copyright regulations.
  • Guiding staff on workflows and developing training programs for reserve staff at Firestone and branch locations.
  • Addressing questions and concerns regarding material access and availability, and troubleshooting service interruptions.
  • Collaborating with managers from other library units and external organizations to enhance service delivery.
  • Providing timely consultations and instruction to faculty and departmental staff on reserve policies and procedures.
  • Engaging in professional development activities and participating in relevant working groups and committees.
  • Representing Princeton in regional, national, and international organizations.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of library experience, with at least three years in providing reserve services in an academic library.
  • At least two years of supervisory experience in an academic library setting.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Experience in training staff and developing training materials.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient technical skills and a commitment to learning new tools and technologies.
  • Experience in collaborative work across departments.
  • Demonstrated initiative and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Expertise in scanning, digitization, and document editing.
  • Familiarity with reserve management systems such as Ares and integrated library systems like Alma.
  • Experience with course management systems (e.g., Canvas).
  • Strong bibliographic searching skills.
  • Knowledge of copyright as it pertains to library services and reserves.
  • Ability to generate statistical data and usage reports.
  • Commitment to professional development and diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to bend, stretch, lift heavy books, and move large book trucks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Working knowledge of ILLiad.
  • Understanding of the digitization process for various media formats, including video and audio.
  • Familiarity with Controlled Digital Lending principles.
