About the Role

InsideHigherEd is seeking a highly skilled Library Collections Specialist VI to join our team. As a key member of our library operations, you will play a vital role in supporting collections services, public services, course reserves, and outreach in our music library.

Responsibilities
  • Collection Management: Contribute to the development and implementation of collection strategies, ensuring that our music library's collections meet the needs of our users.
  • Public Services: Supervise public services in the late afternoon and early evening, responding to patron inquiries and troubleshooting issues.
  • Course Reserves: Organize and process faculty course reserve requests, facilitating world-class research and academic success.
  • Student Staff Management: Assist in managing the public services student staff, providing guidance and support to ensure excellent service delivery.
  • Outreach and Exhibits: Serve as outreach and exhibits coordinator, highlighting the music library's services, resources, special events, and exhibits to our community.
  • Document Scanning: Scan print materials for reserves and document delivery services, ensuring timely and accurate processing.
Qualifications
  • Minimum Qualifications: A minimum of three years of library experience or equivalent, with demonstrated ability to manage collections and circulation.
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively interact with patrons, staff, and faculty.
  • Project Management: Ability to manage time and projects effectively, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines.
  • Supervisory Experience: Supervisory experience, with the ability to lead and motivate staff.
  • Music Knowledge: Ability to read music and recognize different types of notation, familiarity with music history and theory, and knowledge of forms, genres, and instruments corresponding to specific time periods and/or locations.
  • Technical Skills: Familiarity with Alma or other ILS systems, OCLC, and other major bibliographic databases, as well as facility with email, Google Workspace, and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Teamwork: Ability to work well in a team-based environment, collaborating with colleagues to achieve shared goals.
  • Physical Requirements: Physical requirements include bending and stretching, lifting books, and moving large book trucks.
  • Education: High School diploma or GED.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's degree, with a concentration in music or performing arts.
  • Bibliographic Competency: Bibliographic competency of Western European languages.
  • Cataloging and Metadata: Familiarity with cataloging and metadata record structures (including the MARC21 metadata schema) and content standards (including RDA and authority structure and standards).
