Educational Support Specialist

Position Overview:
The Educational Support Specialist plays a crucial role in assisting students who require instructional and behavioral support under the guidance of the special education department or designated supervisor. This position may also involve providing essential services to help students with personal care, mobility, and therapeutic needs as outlined by healthcare professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Implement Individualized Education Program (IEP) objectives in areas such as mathematics, literacy, communication, and social skills, either individually or as part of a classroom team.
- Support teacher-led educational activities, including lesson execution, resource preparation, small group instruction, and interactive learning experiences.
- Assist students integrated into general education settings.
- Relay important information to educators regarding student progress and needs.
- Supervise students during recess, lunch, and community outings.
- Maintain strict confidentiality concerning all student-related matters, ensuring privacy in communications.
- Contribute to prescribed programs developed by related service professionals, including physical therapy, occupational therapy, and speech-language pathology.
- Encourage the development of self-sufficiency in students through assistance with personal care tasks such as hygiene, dressing, and feeding.
- Support behavior management strategies as directed by teachers or other educational professionals.
- Assist educators with administrative tasks, including material preparation, classroom organization, and grading assignments.
- Facilitate student mobility and transfers as needed.
- Report any significant changes in student status in accordance with IHP/IEP guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Adherence to all relevant professional standards and practices.
- Completion of Amergis' Competency program as required.
- Successful participation in new hire training specific to the role.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and HIPAA regulations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively share information with supervisors, colleagues, and clients; proficiency in English is essential.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
