Position Overview:

The Conversational AI Modeling and Learning (CAMEL) team is an integral part of Amazon's Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) organization, dedicated to developing a leading-edge Conversational AI that is both intuitive and responsive.

Our focus is on creating advanced Large Language Models (LLM) solutions that enhance the capabilities of our systems, allowing for the integration of numerous APIs and external knowledge sources to deliver optimal experiences for millions of users.


Role Expectations:
We are seeking a driven and innovative Applied Scientist with expertise in LLM, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems, and Information Retrieval. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in machine learning and a passion for advancing these fields.

The successful applicant will have practical experience in developing Generative AI solutions utilizing LLMs, thrive in dynamic settings, and be self-motivated to tackle complex challenges that lead to significant customer impact. You will be expected to move swiftly to deliver solutions and iterate based on user feedback.


Key Responsibilities:

As an Applied Scientist, you will apply your technical skills to collaborate with other talented scientists and engineers. Your focus will be on researching and developing innovative algorithms and modeling techniques that facilitate natural and contextual conversations.

You will analyze and enhance user experiences by leveraging Amazon's diverse data sources and extensive computing resources to drive advancements in artificial intelligence.

Your work will involve core LLM technologies, including Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), In-Context Learning (ICL), and Learning from Human Feedback (LHF). The outcomes of your efforts will directly influence our customers through the development of new products and services.


Basic Qualifications:
  • PhD or Master's degree with 2+ years of experience in building machine learning models for business applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar.
  • 3+ years of experience with modeling languages and tools like PyTorch, TensorFlow, R, scikit-learn, NumPy, SciPy, etc.
  • Strong foundation in machine learning and familiarity with standard NLU, NLG, and LLM techniques.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics with a focus on machine learning, deep learning, or natural language processing.
  • 1+ years of experience in developing conversational AI and/or natural language processing systems.
  • Publications in peer-reviewed NLP/ML conferences (e.g., ACL, EMNLP, NAACL, NeurIPS, ICLR, ICML, AAAI).
  • Demonstrated scientific thinking and a history of contributions that have advanced the field.
  • 2+ years of experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop, Spark, etc.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
