Job Overview:

As a pivotal member of the Alexa CAS team, our objective is to develop a leading-edge Conversational AI that is both intuitive and responsive. We aim to enhance the capabilities of our Large Language Models (LLM) solutions and services, integrating thousands of APIs and external knowledge sources to ensure an exceptional experience for our users.

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Applied Scientist specializing in LLM, Artificial Intelligence (AI), Natural Language Processing (NLP), Recommender Systems, and Information Retrieval. The ideal candidate will be instrumental in creating scalable solutions for advanced context-aware conversational AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilize your technical expertise to collaborate with skilled applied scientists and engineers in researching and developing innovative algorithms and modeling techniques that facilitate natural and contextual conversations.
  • Analyze and enhance user experiences by leveraging Amazon's diverse data sources and extensive computing resources to drive advancements in artificial intelligence.
  • Engage with core LLM technologies, including Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), In-Context Learning (ICL), and Learning from Human Feedback (LHF).
  • Develop and evaluate novel online and offline metrics for personal digital assistants across various devices and endpoints.
  • Create and implement deep learning, policy-based learning, and machine learning algorithms to achieve impactful results for customers.
  • Conduct model and data analysis, monitoring metrics through online A/B testing.
  • Research and apply cutting-edge machine learning and deep learning algorithms and models.

Basic Qualifications:

  • PhD or Master's degree with 2+ years of experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Machine Learning, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, Python, or similar.
  • 2+ years of experience in building models for business applications.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience in modeling, analysis, and deploying machine learning/deep learning models in production environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in developing spoken language processing systems.
  • Strong foundation in Machine Learning with familiarity in state-of-the-art techniques.
  • Demonstrated scientific thinking and the ability to innovate, with a history of contributions that have advanced the field.
  • Solid software development skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication abilities.

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across various US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $136,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $222,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is determined by several factors including market location and may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

Amazon is a total compensation company, and depending on the position offered, equity, sign-on payments, and other forms of compensation may be included as part of a total compensation package, alongside a comprehensive range of medical, financial, and other benefits.
