Position Overview:

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Applied Scientist to join our Conversational AI Modeling and Learning (CAMEL) team within Amazon's Artificial General Intelligence (AGI) organization. Our mission is to develop cutting-edge Conversational AI systems that are both intuitive and responsive.

Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:

  • Utilize your technical expertise to collaborate with a team of skilled applied scientists and engineers.
  • Research and create novel algorithms and modeling techniques to facilitate natural and contextual conversations.
  • Analyze and enhance user experiences by leveraging Amazon's diverse data sources and extensive computing resources.
  • Engage with core technologies related to Large Language Models (LLM), including Supervised Fine-Tuning (SFT), In-Context Learning (ICL), and Learning from Human Feedback (LHF).

Your contributions will have a direct impact on our customers through the development of innovative products and services.

Basic Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A PhD or Master's degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience in developing machine learning models for business applications.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python.
  • At least 3 years of experience with modeling languages and tools like PyTorch, TensorFlow, R, scikit-learn, NumPy, and SciPy.
  • A solid foundation in machine learning and familiarity with standard Natural Language Understanding (NLU), Natural Language Generation (NLG), and LLM techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:

We prefer candidates who have:

  • A PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Mathematics with a focus on machine learning, deep learning, or natural language processing.
  • Experience in developing conversational AI and/or natural language processing systems for over a year.
  • Published research in peer-reviewed NLP/ML conferences.
  • A strong ability to think scientifically and a history of contributing to advancements in the field.
  • Experience with large-scale distributed systems such as Hadoop or Spark.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
