Job Title: Managing Director, Economic Development

The Port of Seattle is seeking a visionary leader to drive economic development activities and maximize opportunities for the Port. Reporting to the Executive Director, this role will lead efforts to collaborate with regional, national, and international partners to advance the Port's growth and competitiveness.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic economic development initiatives aligned with the Port's goals and strategies.
  • Lead real estate development efforts and partnerships to expand the Port's economic activity and business strategies.
  • Collaborate with the Northwest Seaport Alliance to support business development and operational objectives.
  • Develop strategic partnerships to expand economic activity and opportunity, including partnerships with community groups, non-profit organizations, and civic and business groups.
  • Direct efforts to leverage the Port's relationships to promote economic development for the region in a socially responsible manner.
  • Develop strategies to grow responsible tourism to the Seattle area, Puget Sound region, and the State of Washington as destinations gateways to other areas of the U.S. and international locations.
  • Enhance the Port and region's competitiveness by implementing partnerships and programs that advance innovation in port-related industries.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of ten years of Economic Development experience leading an organization's economic development function.
  • Five years of senior leadership experience managing economic development functions in one or more topical areas of economic development, real estate development, tourism, and small business development.
  • Advanced understanding of small business issues and resources available to these firms.
  • Advanced understanding of economic development processes, programs, and resources.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of real estate development principles and processes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of tourism partners and programs.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategically focused business attraction programs.
  • Experience in real estate development and presenting bold and novel real estate development opportunities.
  • Experience in supporting the sustainable growth of regional tourism.
  • Effective leader that engages and supports the economic development team and other port departments.
  • Proven track record of diversity, equity, and inclusion both internally and externally with partners, port and airport contractors, and the community.
