Overview

The SODO Business Improvement Area, a nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering a safe, clean, and connected community, is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Economic Development Analyst. This newly established role will focus on data identification and analysis to bolster the organization's objectives and initiatives, while also providing support for small businesses, including grant programs. The analyst will play a crucial role in tracking, monitoring, and evaluating ongoing development and planning efforts.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Advance the BIA's economic development initiatives, aiming to position the BIA as a primary resource through in-house platforms and key market data tracking.
  • Collaborate with program staff to conduct mapping and GIS tasks for the BIA, overseeing a project development database and related maps/models.
  • Engage with neighborhood stakeholders and governmental entities to research, quantify, and compile essential statistics that illustrate the narrative of the community.
  • Enhance and maintain the CRM database, contributing to the development of new capabilities and functionalities.
  • Create data visualizations and graphics for the BIA's website, blogs, newsletters, and social media in partnership with the communications team.
  • Administer grant programs by generating activity reports and ensuring compliance documentation is produced.
  • Monitor elected bodies to identify policy proposals affecting the community, synthesizing complex information into fact sheets, action alerts, and advocacy materials.
  • Develop compelling visual representations of data in various formats, including maps, presentations, and reports.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in economics, business, public administration, urban planning, or a related field; a Master's degree is a plus.
  • 3-5 years of experience in research and data analysis, economic development, real estate, or a related field.
  • Experience with business improvement areas, placemaking organizations, nonprofits, or municipal government is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in database applications and GIS.
  • Experience in maintaining databases and CRM systems.
  • Self-motivated with strong attention to detail, an eagerness to learn, and a good sense of humor.
  • Familiarity with basic graphic design and database software.
  • Strong organizational skills, including attention to detail, task prioritization, and time management.
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and diplomacy skills.
  • Flexibility and a positive attitude are essential, as all employees contribute to the overall success of the organization.

Compensation: Salary Range $75,000-$85,000
