About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Collection Librarian to join our team at Guidehouse. As a key member of our library operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing various aspects of cataloging operations, including supervising cataloging, record and metadata creation, and ensuring collection materials are discoverable.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Monitoring and Performance Management: Perform a combination of duties involving program monitoring, performance management, technical assistance, and reporting on all aspects of the activities that revolve around cataloging and library-wide system initiatives around collection discoverability.
  • Administrative and Programmatic Duties: Design, implement, and deliver analysis, workflow, and prioritization plans for unprocessed materials. Provide just-in-time information about the program, respond to inquiries, and conduct coordinating activities. Schedule meetings, consult with leadership and staff, prioritize needs, draft communication and data collection tools, take the team's direction, and coordinate contractor resources in alignment with strategic objectives and project milestones.
  • Metadata Creation and Quality Assurance: Create quality records and find aids for ingest into systems. Supervise contractor staff to pilot the streamlined workflows and processes, including time management, data collection, quality assurance, and auditing, and reporting to NIH.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree (Relevant experience may be substituted for formal education or advanced degree). Demonstrated experience with a minimum of TWO (2) years managing large cataloging and metadata projects within a library or information science environment.
  • Cataloging and Metadata Expertise: Demonstrated experience with cataloging and creating authority records according to national and international standards, including Resource Description and Access (RDA), Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (DCRM), Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC), BIBCO/CONSER Standard Record guidelines, LC/PCC Policy Statements, PCC Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) guidelines, and Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).
  • Eligibility and Security Clearance: Eligibility and willingness to apply for and maintain an NIH badge.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree and Advanced Experience: Master's degree in library science, information science, or related field. Two years of experience with non-MARC metadata and metadata conversion from other formats is strongly preferred. Two years of experience using Alma or similar library services platforms to develop, manage, and recommend efficient workflows.
  • NIH and Federal Agency Experience: Proven related experience with the NIH or other federal agencies.
