Senior Vice President, Primary Research Operations

Are you eager to collaborate with a vibrant team of top-tier professionals in the Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) sector? Do you have a strong commitment to leading Primary Research initiatives that enhance healthcare results globally? Our Primary Research Operations team is seeking a Senior Vice President to guide teams of research experts in executing client projects within the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, serving as a thought leader, problem solver, and consultative authority.

About You:
  • You possess extensive experience as a health economics and outcomes research consultant, adept at designing and implementing comprehensive primary research utilizing a diverse array of qualitative and quantitative methodologies.
  • Your expertise in qualitative and mixed methods, particularly in preference elicitation and patient-centered outcomes research, enables you to articulate the rationale, methodologies, and strategies for studies to project teams, clients, and external stakeholders.
  • You are knowledgeable about the strengths and limitations of various approaches and can propose tailored applications or solutions of new or existing methods to address specific research inquiries.
  • You have successfully led and strategized the dissemination of research findings through peer-reviewed publications, conferences, and other presentations, boasting a solid record of publications.
  • You are experienced in conceptualizing studies, developing research proposals, and identifying new opportunities with both existing and prospective clients.
About The Role:

The Senior Vice President will oversee and manage our primary research operations. The ideal candidate will exhibit a blend of HEOR scientific knowledge and a passion for expanding our presence in health economics and outcomes research, nurturing key client relationships, and discovering ways to enhance delivery efficiency. Responsibilities include broadening the scope of our primary research services, creating new revenue-generating opportunities (e.g., strategic partnerships, innovative primary data collection methods, HTA-focused evidence generation efforts), and collaborating across HEOR and related business units to provide comprehensive, integrated HEOR solutions to clients.

As a Senior Director managing research initiatives, you will ensure the overall quality of projects; develop recommendations based on anticipated impact; communicate risks and opportunities to align staff; and take on the role of senior decision-maker accountable for outcomes. You will be responsible for timely project delivery and financial performance across the initiatives you lead. You will review and approve deliverables to ensure they meet client readiness standards, including protocols, statistical analysis plans, technical reports, and presentations, while identifying necessary deviations from templates to align content with objectives.

In your capacity as a client manager, you will provide final approval on update presentations/minutes and actions for the overall study; maintain relationships with clients and be recognized as a subject matter expert. You will serve as the senior advisor during client discussions and in email communications, proactively managing client expectations and collaborating with team members to devise strategies for problem-solving on a project basis.

In addition to research project responsibilities, the Senior Director will engage in business development activities, participate in sales discussions, lead study conceptualization, and draft proposals for clients. Senior Directors will also have line management duties, ensuring appropriate staffing and creating development plans for their direct reports.

Required Experience:
  • 12-15+ years of experience, with a minimum of 5 years in a consulting environment.
  • Master's degree in a field related to health services research, such as health economics, epidemiology, public health, or biostatistics.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, including success in building and retaining teams focused on primary research delivery.
  • Prior exposure to and understanding of qualitative and mixed methods research principles.
  • Strong knowledge of HEOR, the pharmaceutical industry, health policy, and payer value assessment and HTA evidence requirements both in the US and internationally.
  • Proven business acumen.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead a diverse, interdisciplinary team of researchers.
  • Capability to line-manage and mentor direct reports, ensuring positive team dynamics and staff well-being.
  • Established record of relevant peer-reviewed scientific publications and conference presentations.
Helpful Experience:
  • PhD in a field related to health services research or pharmacoeconomics, such as health economics, epidemiology, or biostatistics.
  • Strong working knowledge of modern econometric, preference elicitation, epidemiological, and observational research methodologies.
  • Willingness and enthusiasm to learn and share knowledge.
