Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Collection Librarian will manage various facets of cataloging functions, including the supervision of cataloging activities and the creation of records and metadata to enhance the discoverability of collection materials.
Primary Duties:
- Engage in a blend of responsibilities that encompass program oversight, performance evaluation, technical support, and comprehensive reporting on all cataloging and library-wide system initiatives aimed at improving collection discoverability.
- Administrative and programmatic tasks include:
- Designing, implementing, and delivering analyses, workflows, and prioritization strategies for unprocessed materials.
- Providing timely information regarding the program, addressing inquiries, and coordinating activities.
- Organizing meetings, consulting with leadership and staff, prioritizing needs, drafting communications and data collection tools, following team directives, and aligning contractor resources with strategic goals and project timelines.
- Creating high-quality records and finding aids for system ingestion.
- Overseeing contractor personnel to pilot streamlined workflows and processes, including time management, data collection, quality assurance, auditing, and reporting.
- Exhibiting excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree (Relevant experience may substitute for formal education or advanced degree)
- A minimum of TWO (2) years of demonstrated experience managing large-scale cataloging and metadata projects within a library or information science setting.
- Proven experience in cataloging and creating authority records in accordance with national and international standards, including:
- Resource Description and Access (RDA),
- Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (DCRM),
- Machine-Readable Cataloging (MARC),
- BIBCO/CONSER Standard Record guidelines,
- LC/PCC Policy Statements,
- PCC Name Authority Cooperative (NACO) guidelines,
- Medical Subject Headings (MeSH).
- Willingness and eligibility to apply for and maintain an NIH badge.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's degree in Library Science, Information Science, or a related field.
- Two years of experience with non-MARC metadata and metadata conversion from alternative formats is highly desirable.
- Two years of experience utilizing Alma or similar library services platforms to develop, manage, and recommend efficient workflows.
- Relevant experience with the NIH or other federal agencies is advantageous.
The annual salary range for this position is $87,100.00-$130,000. Compensation decisions are influenced by various factors, including skill sets, experience, training, security clearances, licensure and certifications, and other organizational needs.
