Position Overview

At H2M Architects and Engineers, our mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) engineers play a crucial role in ensuring that the systems we design operate seamlessly within buildings. Our focus is on creating precise, high-quality schematics that reflect the full scope of work, which we establish through direct client engagement. By conducting field assessments, gathering measurements, and posing insightful questions, we achieve a level of detail that streamlines the bidding and construction phases, ultimately reducing the need for change orders.

Our MEP solutions prioritize building performance, energy efficiency, and occupant satisfaction. While our contributions may not be immediately visible in the final structure, the ease of operation we provide for our clients is undeniable.

We are seeking a seasoned Electrical Engineer with over 10 years of experience in a consulting engineering environment, specializing in the design of electrical systems, including power distribution, lighting, communication, and security systems. In this role, you will collaborate with a diverse team of MEP engineers, architects, civil engineers, and environmental scientists to deliver electrical engineering design for a variety of public and private sector clients. You will also oversee the coordination of both internal and external teams responsible for power generation, distribution, low voltage systems, lighting, communication, fire alarm, and security system design.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Lead the Electrical Team in the Albany office, focusing on the design of electrical systems such as power distribution, standby power generation, lighting, communication, fire alarm, and security systems.
  2. Develop and mentor a team of Electrical Engineers in project design and development tasks, including creating drawings, performing calculations, preparing cost estimates, and drafting specifications. Address client inquiries, review contractor submissions, and provide clarifications during the construction phase.
  3. Oversee and review electrical design documents to ensure compliance with industry standards and company protocols.
  4. Collaborate with the QA/QC team to enhance company quality standards and procedures.
  5. Work with the MEP management team to formulate and execute short- and long-term manpower and production strategies to achieve project goals.
  6. Participate in business development initiatives to secure new projects, including involvement in client presentations.
  7. Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited institution.
  • 10-15+ years of experience in a consulting engineering firm, specializing in the design of building power, lighting, communication, and security systems.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the architectural and engineering sectors, including relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Must hold a valid NJ Professional Engineer license (NY PE is a plus).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and similar software.
  • LEED Accreditation and familiarity with AutoCAD, Revit, and EasyPower are preferred.
  • Experience with HVAC and plumbing systems is advantageous.

The salary range for this position is $110,000 - $150,000 annually.
