Role Overview:
The Portfolio Manager-HFF plays a pivotal role in the Hotel Franchise Finance (HFF) division, reporting directly to the Underwriting Team Lead. This position entails the comprehensive analysis, structuring, underwriting, and successful closure of intricate loans for hotels situated throughout the United States. The Portfolio Manager collaborates closely with the Underwriting Team Lead and the Managing Director of Sales to effectively monitor and identify credit risks. The incumbent is tasked with supporting the attainment of Bank and Business Line objectives through proactive underwriting, closing, and management of favorable loans. Compliance with all Bank policies, procedures, and relevant state and federal banking regulations is paramount.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Engage with the Underwriting Team Lead and Managing Director of Sales to evaluate loan opportunities, providing insights on credit metrics and proposed loan structures. Interact with a diverse range of clients, including hotel owners and financial executives, to assess optimal credit structures that align with both Bank requirements and client needs.
  • Compile, analyze, and succinctly summarize complex underwriting data to present clear financing requests to senior management and credit approvers.
  • Identify essential property characteristics and challenges, such as brand analysis, occupancy trends, competitive positioning, and demand drivers.
  • Review appraisals and borrower projections, ensuring accuracy and identifying potential valuation and underwriting risks.
  • Negotiate loan documentation in accordance with approved terms, including financial covenants and collateral controls.
  • Exhibit strong organizational and teamwork capabilities to facilitate the efficient administration and closure of approved loans, ensuring adherence to Bank lending policies.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, fostering positive relationships with clients, employees, vendors, and stakeholders.
  • Manage various underwriting and portfolio management tasks related to new loan requests and the existing portfolio.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 7 years of experience in Hotel or Commercial Real Estate Income underwriting within a financial institution.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit and underwriting principles in Commercial Real Estate lending.
  • Advanced skills in financial statement and tax return analysis, supported by relevant educational background.
  • Strong portfolio management capabilities, enabling timely identification of credit concerns.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a focus on presentation.
  • A collaborative team player with the ability to manage multiple credit requests simultaneously.
  • Proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a positive attitude.
  • Willingness to travel on short notice as required.
Compensation:
The salary range for new hires typically falls between $132,000 and $163,000 for positions in New York, NY, determined by specific job location. This role may also qualify for annual bonuses and restricted stock options.
