Position Summary

The University Communications Department at Jackson State University invites applications for the role of Lead Social Media Strategist. This position is pivotal in crafting and executing a robust social media strategy that amplifies our institution's brand, fosters community engagement, and advances our objectives in recruitment, retention, fundraising, and outreach.

Qualifications

Essential Education

Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or a related discipline.

Essential Experience

A minimum of five to seven (5-7) years in social media management, ideally within a higher education context.

Core Competencies
  • In-depth knowledge of major social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, TikTok, etc.), including their algorithms, best practices, and current trends.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong grasp of social media analytics with the ability to interpret data to enhance performance and inform leadership.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively in a dynamic, team-oriented environment.
  • Excellent organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Creative problem-solving and innovative thinking.
  • Proficiency in social media management tools (e.g., Hootsuite, Sprout Social) and Adobe Creative Suite applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to produce engaging content across various social media platforms.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design and implement strategic social media initiatives that align with the goals and objectives of JSU.
  • Oversee and coordinate a network of community managers throughout the university, ensuring consistent messaging and brand representation across institutional social media accounts.
  • Create, curate, and manage high-quality, engaging content across diverse social media platforms (e.g., Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube).
  • Stay abreast of social media trends, tools, and applications, applying this knowledge to enhance impressions and engagement on social media platforms.
  • Analyze and report on social media performance, offering insights and recommendations for continuous improvement.
  • Collaborate with internal departments, including Enrollment Management, Institutional Advancement, and Athletics, to support their social media objectives.
  • Mentor and train junior team members and student workers on social media best practices.
  • Lead social media efforts during crisis communications in partnership with the Social Media Associate and other crisis management team members.
  • Engage with the online community, responding to comments, inquiries, and feedback in a timely and professional manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
