Suffolk University is excited to present a unique opportunity for a Strategic Human Resources Consultant. This role entails providing both strategic and operational guidance for Human Resources (HR) within a designated school, department, or business unit. The consultant will act as a key collaborator with business leaders, offering insights on how to optimize human capital to achieve organizational goals.

The consultant will utilize a comprehensive understanding of business strategies to deliver expert advice. They will influence management across divisions or business units regarding all facets of personnel management, with a focus on performance enhancement, organizational development, and employee efficiency.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute organizational capability initiatives and workforce strategies tailored to the specific needs of the assigned unit. Lead talent reviews, promote diversity and inclusion efforts, and collaborate with HR teams to create talent acquisition strategies that align with business objectives.
  • Ensure the delivery of HR services is seamlessly integrated with organizational goals. Develop and implement top-tier HR practices across the unit to support strategic priorities and departmental philosophies.
  • Identify, develop, and implement HR programs that align with the business objectives and performance priorities of the assigned unit. Seek opportunities to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Engage in leadership team meetings to formulate operational plans, ensuring the unit possesses the necessary personnel, organizational alignment, and culture to achieve both short-term and long-term objectives.
  • Proactively identify significant business challenges and their associated implications for personnel, organizational structure, and culture.
  • Oversee organizational development, change management, leadership training, and diversity initiatives, enhancing the performance of the unit.
  • Recommend and implement enhancements to goal-setting processes, performance management systems, and customized learning and development programs.
  • Support critical change management initiatives and foster a high-performance culture.
  • Align workforce strategies with budgetary constraints and allocations.
  • Act as a strategic advisor, providing expert insights on all aspects of personnel management.
  • Offer daily coaching to leadership on various topics, including employee relations, policy interpretation, talent management, and organizational design.
  • Ensure compliance with HR policies, collective bargaining agreements, and employment legislation.
  • Represent the interests of the assigned unit while collaborating with HR and shared services to develop HR policies and labor agreements.
  • Utilize HR resources to address issues pertinent to the unit, gathering data and feedback to drive continuous improvement in HR service delivery.
  • Develop and implement HR metrics and reporting systems to support informed decision-making.
  • Monitor external market trends related to talent issues and proactively address emerging HR challenges.
  • Collaborate with internal HR functions on organizational design, recognition, staffing, compensation, benefits, training, and employee relations.
  • Contribute to key HR projects and initiatives to enhance the impact of Human Resources at Suffolk University.
  • Assist in the development of HR policies, practices, and programs, ensuring compliance with local labor laws and regulations.
  • Work with senior HR leadership and legal partners on complex employee relations matters as necessary.
  • Promote a positive workplace culture, focusing on engagement, employee experience, and inclusivity.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree is required.
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in a Human Resources consulting role.
  • Comprehensive knowledge across various HR disciplines.
  • Proven ability to implement effective change management strategies.
  • Strong collaboration and team-building capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to analyze problems, organize information, and identify key factors to generate effective solutions.
  • Demonstrated skills in time management and prioritization.
  • Capacity to drive multiple projects to successful completion.
  • Ability to persuade and influence others effectively.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • High degree of professionalism and confidentiality.
  • Proficient in coaching, providing constructive feedback, and developing staff.
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking and leadership skills, including people development and performance measurement.
  • Preferred: Experience in a unionized environment or with labor relations.
