The Lead Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) oversees the daily functions of hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation departments, ensuring meticulous record reviews and equipment upkeep. This role entails the validation, development, and implementation of innovative procedures, policies, and software updates within the hematology/urinalysis/coagulation sectors. Additionally, the Lead CLS is responsible for training and assessing the competency of all laboratory personnel assigned to the department. The Lead CLS also compiles and reviews monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual quality assurance/control reports.
Moreover, the Lead CLS provides essential guidance and direction to staff, facilitating the accurate, timely, and efficient execution of instrument maintenance, quality control, management of non-conforming events, and records management.

Job Description:

EDUCATION
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, accompanied by a minimum of one year of relevant training or an equivalent combination of education and experience that meets state requirements.

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE
CLSL - Licensed Clinical Laboratory Scientist

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE

At least 5 years of experience as a licensed CLS Generalist.

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE
Comprehensive understanding of CAP and other accrediting agency requirements.
Thorough knowledge of operations and quality control/quality assurance standards in hematology, urinalysis, and coagulation.
Proven ability to plan, coordinate, organize, direct, and evaluate operations within the hematology/urinalysis/coagulation departments.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to draft reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Capable of effectively presenting information and addressing inquiries from management, physicians, and other medical center personnel.
Proficient in identifying and analyzing issues related to laboratory test performance.
Ability to foster and maintain collaborative working relationships with colleagues and other stakeholders, including medical center staff and vendors.
Exemplifies the role model behavior for fellow staff members and adheres to all laboratory and medical center policies and procedures.

Key responsibilities include staff scheduling, managing coverage for absences, delegating tasks, prioritizing workloads, directing problem-solving initiatives, ensuring continuity between shifts, and addressing customer inquiries or complaints.

Acts as a liaison between the Clinical Laboratory Manager and staff, physicians, patients, families, and other hospital personnel, leading communication huddles and structured team meetings.

Provides constructive feedback and recognition to colleagues, reinforcing the organization's values and focusing the team's efforts on delivering safe, reliable care.
Prior experience with computerized laboratory systems is essential.
Basic proficiency in computer applications, including Microsoft Word and Excel, is required.
Demonstrates the ability to work independently and think critically to resolve issues effectively. Capable of initiating, implementing, and evaluating changes as necessary.

Pay Range is $64.54 to $81.86 / hour

The salary range for this role may vary above or below the posted range as determined by location. This range has not been adjusted for any specific geographic differential applicable by area where the position may be filled. Compensation takes into account several factors including but not limited to a candidate's experience, education, skills, licensure and certifications, department equity, training and organizational needs.
