We are seeking a Laboratory Operations Coordinator to become part of a prominent National Laboratory team.
Position Overview
In this role, the Laboratory Operations Coordinator will collaborate closely with the Operations Team to deliver extensive facilities and research support services. The position entails optimizing laboratory functions, managing the administrative components of research, and offering thorough facilities assistance to adapt to the dynamic requirements of our research initiatives. Key duties include routine preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment, support for laboratory services, chemical lifecycle management, general office and laboratory operations administration, logistics, and ensuring compliance with environmental health and safety standards.
(30%) Routine Equipment Maintenance
- Assist in diagnosing equipment malfunctions and facilitate repair visits.
- Adhere to standard operating procedures (SOPs) for regular equipment upkeep.
- Conduct routine cleaning and defrosting of freezers.
- Collect and launder laboratory coats, ensuring timely distribution for laboratory staff.
- Assist with the collection, cleaning, autoclaving, and redistribution of glassware.
- Support inventory monitoring and replenishment in the Stockroom.
- Ensure proper labeling and storage of hazardous materials, maintain records in the CMS database, and oversee disposal as necessary.
- Assist in the reconciliation of inventory records.
- Manage office/lab space tracking and update floor plans accordingly.
- Collaborate with various operational teams (IT, Admin, Communications, etc.) as directed by the supervisor.
- Navigate the training database to identify incomplete or expired training sessions.
- Follow up with researchers and staff regarding necessary training.
- Assist in safety inspections and initiatives as required.
- Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences or a related discipline.
- 1-2 years of relevant laboratory experience.
- Ability to operate within established procedures to achieve consistent results.
- Demonstrated time management, organizational, and project management capabilities.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize effectively, and maintain high productivity.
- Proficient in teamwork and collaboration with a diverse range of clients and service providers under supervision.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and meticulous record-keeping.
- Proficient in computer applications, particularly M.S. Office/Google Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and web-based data systems.
- Understanding of safety protocols in laboratory and workplace environments.
This position requires full on-site engagement.
