Position Overview:
The Substance Use Recovery Support Specialist plays a crucial role in offering assistance, advocacy, and connection services to individuals and their families impacted by substance use challenges, particularly in emergency healthcare settings.

Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license. A minimum of a High School diploma or equivalent is required, while an Associate, Bachelor's, or Master's degree is advantageous. A solid understanding of substance use disorders, prevention strategies, treatment options, and referral processes is essential. Certification as a Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) or CRPA-Provisional is also beneficial.

Experience:
Relevant personal experience is necessary, including a history of living with a disability, overcoming substance use issues, or navigating social/emotional challenges. Candidates should be prepared to utilize their experiences to inspire and support the recovery objectives of those they assist.

Key Responsibilities:
The responsibilities of the Substance Use Recovery Support Specialist encompass, but are not limited to:

  1. Engaging individuals in community settings and emergency healthcare facilities, crafting personalized service plans, and facilitating referrals to essential services.
  2. Providing encouragement, guidance, and support in connecting individuals to suitable resources.
  3. Delivering outreach, advocacy, mentoring, and recovery support services to those pursuing or maintaining recovery.
  4. Implementing strategies to enhance recovery capital tailored to the specific goals of the individuals served.
  5. Collaborating with healthcare professionals to assess the needs of individuals and their families post-discharge, ensuring they are connected to treatment and support services.
  6. Maintaining an active role in follow-up interactions with individuals and families at designated intervals post-discharge.
  7. Collecting necessary data to support reporting requirements for funding sources and healthcare systems.
  8. Facilitating navigation and access to services that help participants achieve their health, safety, and recovery goals.
  9. Acting as a liaison between the program and the communities served, representing the program professionally.
  10. Promoting the program through community education and outreach initiatives.
  11. Engaging with various community stakeholders to foster connections and referrals back to the agency.
  12. Participating in community events to raise awareness and provide training as needed.
  13. Documenting community interactions and maintaining accurate records as required.
  14. Participating in quality improvement training and activities as part of ongoing professional development.
