POSITION SUMMARY:
The Family Support Advocate serves as an integral member of a client's treatment team, providing essential peer support services to families facing challenges related to communication, advocacy, education, and parenting skills.
EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND:
A high school diploma is preferred. A credential recognized by the Office of Mental Health and specialized training and supervision are preferred, or must be obtained within 6 months of starting the position.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:
Must be a parent or caregiver with personal experience in raising a child with significant mental health challenges, possessing knowledge of the associated difficulties and available community resources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Act as a role model for family members.
- Provide education on self-help techniques and group processes.
- Share effective coping strategies based on personal experience.
- Assist in defining rehabilitation and recovery objectives for clients and their families.
- Support families in building community connections and natural supports to improve their quality of life.
- Guide family members in implementing strategies to promote positive behavior in their children, in line with clinician recommendations.
- Offer individual or group training on parenting skills tailored to the behavioral health needs of children.
- Facilitate the sharing of relevant information to enhance collaborative decision-making and keep clients informed of their progress.
- Identify and participate in quality improvement training and activities as part of ongoing professional development.
- Promote quality improvement initiatives and provide consistent resources for professional growth.
- Foster an inclusive workplace culture that values diverse strengths, perspectives, and experiences.
- Adhere to safety protocols to maintain a secure working environment for all staff.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
