Compensation Range

$153,450 - $236,316 Annually

$153,450 - $197,028 Annually for the TSL.3 level

$183,990 - $236,316 Annually for the TSL.4 level

Please note that the compensation range is a general guideline. Various factors, including education, experience, and market conditions, influence starting pay.

Position Summary

We are seeking an Explosives Experiment Fielding Lead to oversee a variety of functions related to the planning and execution of hydrodynamic experiments. This role involves providing technical leadership to ensure the safe and secure execution of explosive experiments, supporting various programs including Weapon Physics & Design and Global Security.

Your responsibilities will include leading a team to assist in the collection of diagnostic data and the execution of explosively driven experiments, primarily conducted at designated testing facilities.

This position requires a full-time on-site presence due to the nature of the work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expert technical leadership and coordination for a multi-disciplinary team in high-hazard explosive experiment operations, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Manage daily activities and short-term scheduling by effectively allocating resources and collaborating with facility managers.
  • Oversee the development and verification of operational procedures and documentation for conducting explosive experiments.
  • Report significant events related to safety, health, or quality to appropriate supervisory personnel and assist in investigations.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders within the explosive experiment community to ensure effective communication and coordination.
  • Promote a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and accountability within the team.
  • Perform additional tasks as required.
Additional Responsibilities at TSL.4 Level
  • Engage in long-term strategic planning and budget management.
  • Establish and maintain long-term operational schedules, balancing personnel and resources effectively.
  • Serve as a peer reviewer for proposed experiments.
  • Identify and manage projects aimed at enhancing fielding capabilities.
  • Act as the Explosive Experiment Fielding Supervisor in their absence.
Qualifications
  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance from another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Extensive expertise in hydrodynamic experiment design, explosive operations, or similar high-hazard environments.
  • Strong leadership, mentoring, and communication skills to guide collaborative teams.
  • Ability to resolve complex issues with sound judgment and innovative problem-solving techniques.
  • Advanced knowledge of hazard identification and control implementation for experimental activities.
Preferred Qualifications
  • In-depth knowledge of experimental operations within the Weapon Physics and Design Program.
  • Experience in project management, including budget and resource planning for high-hazard operations.
  • Familiarity with LLNL policies and regulations related to safety and environmental health.
  • Experience in roles requiring handling classified information and materials.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting inclusion and diversity in the workplace.
