Minimum Qualifications:
Associate's Degree; or Two years of college (60 credits); or Pass on Parapro Exam prior to employment. Experience working with children is preferred.

General Overview:

The Paraeducator for 1:1 Custodial Care plays a vital role in supporting the educational journey of students with disabilities. This position involves working closely with classroom teachers to meet the physical and instructional needs of students in both special and regular education settings. Responsibilities include managing student behavior, maintaining accurate records, providing instructional assistance, ensuring classroom safety, and fostering effective communication with students.

This role specifically focuses on delivering individualized support and care to a student with unique requirements within the school environment. Duties encompass assisting with daily activities, personal hygiene, and ensuring the safety and well-being of the student throughout the school day.


Essential Knowledge and Skills:
- Strong communication skills to interact effectively with parents, colleagues, and students.
- Ability to work compassionately with children with disabilities.
- Understanding of the diverse needs and characteristics of all students, particularly those with specific learning disabilities or emotional challenges.

- Knowledge of classroom management principles and child development stages.
- Flexibility, common sense, and sound judgment in various situations.
- Skill in following both oral and written instructions.
- Ability to identify, prevent, and de-escalate challenging behaviors.
- Proficiency in assisting students in achieving their Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals.
- Reliability and punctuality are essential.

Key Responsibilities:
- Support individual and small groups of students in reinforcing material introduced by the teacher and promoting independence.
- Monitor and assist students across various classroom settings to ensure task completion and focus, providing necessary accommodations as outlined in the IEP.
- Accompany students during necessary outings from the classroom.
- Assist in both large and small group activities.
- Aid the teacher in preparing instructional materials and operating classroom equipment.
- Implement behavior and social skills programs under the teacher's guidance.
- Support the development of new materials as required.
- Conduct routine clerical tasks as needed.
- Understand all transportation procedures, including early and late dismissals.
- Participate in de-escalation and physical management training (provided as needed).
- Maintain a focus on student well-being while adhering to ethical standards and confidentiality.
- Establish supportive relationships with students while maintaining authority.
- Notify the teacher or administrator of any issues or special information.
- Fulfill other related duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

The physical demands of this position include reaching, lifting, standing, walking, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, sitting, and/or crawling. The role may require moving small stacks of educational materials and assisting in lifting students weighing over 50 pounds. Occasional exposure to varying weather conditions may occur.


Evaluation:

Performance in this role will be assessed according to the Board's policy on the evaluation of support services.
