At J R Davis Construction, we are seeking a dedicated Project Engineer to collaborate closely with the Project Manager and the project team in overseeing and facilitating various processes involved in heavy civil construction projects. Your role will be pivotal in ensuring the project schedule is adhered to by managing submittal approvals, coordinating the timely procurement of materials, and overseeing budgets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate work schedules and manage design modifications and plan updates with project stakeholders.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of project scope, regularly consulting with field operations, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Review project requirements daily, adjusting project schedules as necessary, analyzing specifications, and coordinating with the production team while tracking all contract pay items.
  • Update the project schedule based on input from Field Operations in accordance with contract specifications.
  • Compile bids and estimates from subcontractors and distribute contract documents at the project site for management input.
  • Work directly under the guidance of Project Management.
  • Ensure adherence to Safety Policies, as safety is the highest priority.
  • Assist the Project Manager with project initiation and closure processes.
  • Process and track all Submittals and RFIs, including maintaining logs.
  • Create and maintain the Project CPM Schedule with logical input from Project Management and Field Operations.
  • Support Project Operations with two-week Look Ahead schedules, particularly for FDOT Projects which require weekly resource loading.
  • Attend and maintain minutes for Weekly Progress Meetings when not provided by the owner.
  • Coordinate with Survey teams on project issues requiring survey involvement or RFI requests.
  • Verify that contract drawings are accurately aligned with EOR revisions, RFIs, and CSI modifications.
  • Assist the Project Manager with quarterly Look Ahead Schedules and projected resource needs.
  • Provide precise field quantities with assistance from the project superintendent for billing, cost control, projections, and completion support, ensuring these quantities are loaded in Heavy Job.
  • Review Labor and Equipment reports with field personnel concerning budget adherence.
  • Assist in scheduling, tracking, and coordinating subcontractors and permanent material deliveries.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience is required.
  • Proficient computer skills are essential, including familiarity with construction project management software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative office and field environment.
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with clients and subcontractors.
