POSITION SUMMARY:

The City of Baltimore is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Junior Engineering Specialist. This position involves the preparation and assessment of engineering plans, designs, specifications, and cost evaluations. The incumbent will also oversee the contributions of drafting and sub-professional engineering staff.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Employees will operate primarily in an office environment under standard working conditions, requiring minimal physical effort. The role involves moderate supervision from a technical supervisor, ensuring guidance and support throughout the engineering processes.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

All applicants who meet the essential qualifications will be placed on an eligible list for consideration. The evaluation will focus on the training and experience relevant to the position. It is crucial to provide comprehensive and precise information in the application to facilitate the assessment process.

QUALIFICATIONS:

To qualify for this position, candidates must possess:
  • A Bachelor of Science degree in engineering from an accredited institution, or
  • A Master's degree in engineering, which may substitute for the Bachelor's degree.

CERTIFICATIONS:

Some roles may require specific certifications, including an Engineer-In-Training certificate from the State of Maryland or an Engineering Technologist certification from NICET. Additionally, a valid Maryland Class C Non-Commercial driver's license may be necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Understanding of engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to apply engineering concepts effectively.
  • Proficiency in preparing technical documentation and conducting engineering assessments.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
