The Maryland Transportation Authority (MDTA) is responsible for the operation and maintenance of significant toll facilities, including bridges, tunnels, and turnpikes throughout Maryland.
For over five decades, the MDTA has been dedicated to providing safe, secure, and efficient transportation options for both residents and visitors of Maryland. Our commitment to quality service is upheld through our organizational values and the dedication of our employees.
Role Responsibilities:
This position entails a senior-level role for a licensed Professional Engineer (PE) within the Office of Engineering and Construction (OEC) at the MDTA.
The incumbent will be engaged in the Traffic Section, overseeing traffic and transportation engineering planning, analysis, design, and project management.
The key responsibilities include:
- Supervising and managing intricate transportation engineering studies and projects from inception to completion.
- Overseeing junior engineers and managing external consultant engineering firms.
- Reviewing and managing various traffic studies, including safety and impact assessments.
- Signing off on design evaluations and developing Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) plans.
- Collaborating with the Traffic Manager to identify and manage projects related to signing, safety, and data collection.
- Creating and maintaining project schedules, construction cost estimates, and budget tracking.
- Coordinating with various MDTA divisions and other governmental agencies.
- Representing the OEC-Traffic Section in meetings both internally and externally.
- Reviewing construction Requests for Information (RFIs) and shop drawings, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and regulations.
- Managing consultants in the design and preparation of construction documents for traffic and highway projects.
Work will be conducted in both office and field settings, with potential requirements for safety equipment during fieldwork. Flexibility in work hours, including evenings and weekends, may be necessary, along with being on-call for emergencies.
Qualifications:
Applicants must possess a Maryland Professional Engineer license, with proof required upon appointment.
Experience:
Minimum of one year managing engineering projects as a licensed professional engineer, with at least two years focused on traffic engineering design, operations, analysis, and safety projects.
Preferred Skills:
The ideal candidate will have:
- Expertise in traffic engineering and a comprehensive understanding of design guidelines, including the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) and the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM).
- Familiarity with AASHTO guidelines and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Accessibility Guidelines.
