Job Overview

The Neuro Imaging Technologist will play a crucial role in supporting the sophisticated technological requirements of intricate neurosurgical and neurologic diagnostic and interventional procedures within the Neuro lab and hybrid surgical environments. This position involves hands-on engagement with various imaging and navigation systems, including Brain lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vison Sense, and VTI, which are essential for guiding surgeons during complex head and spine operations, as well as utilizing ultrasound and injector technologies for vascular and neurologic diagnostics and interventions.

The technologist will evaluate daily technology requirements based on scheduled procedures and ensure all equipment is prepared and operational. Proactive management of schedules, identification of needs, and resolution of conflicts related to technology will be essential. Pre-procedural tasks include organizing images for reference during procedures, while intra-procedural responsibilities encompass operating specialized equipment and ensuring the availability of necessary supplies. Post-procedural duties involve data management from navigation systems and maintaining inventory of specialized supplies. The technologist's role is vital in ensuring the seamless execution of surgical, diagnostic, and interventional procedures, assisting in troubleshooting complex equipment during operations, and facilitating efficient workflow.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate radiology equipment with precision, ensuring optimal patient positioning for high-quality imaging.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot radiology equipment, coordinating service calls and communicating issues to incoming staff.
  • Interact with patients to build trust and provide support, explaining procedures prior to examinations.
  • Monitor patient status and safety throughout the procedure, ensuring adherence to protocols.
  • Collaborate with radiologists and medical team members to facilitate procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing in line with section protocols.
  • Operate ancillary equipment to meet patient needs during examinations.
  • Stay informed about new technologies and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Support neurosurgery and ENT operating room cases utilizing advanced imaging systems.
  • Prepare neuro/oto cases by merging images across multiple systems and conducting pre-use checks of imaging equipment.
  • Perform registration routines intraoperatively, merging mapping with previous scans to finalize imaging plans.
  • Manage the repository for scans and maintain a database of images and videos from various systems.
  • Assist surgeons with technical issues related to imaging systems during procedures.
Experience Requirements

0-2 years of relevant experience is required, including experience in assisting physicians during neurovascular interventions.

Educational Background

High School diploma or GED, along with an Associate's degree from an AMA-approved Diagnostic Radiology program.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required, along with an American Registry Radiology Tech license and a New Jersey Radiology Tech License.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proficient in various imaging, ultrasound, and neuro-navigation systems, including Siemens, Sonosite, Power Injector, Brain lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vison Sense, and VTI.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
Special Requirements

This is a full-time position requiring 36 hours per week, typically consisting of three 12-hour shifts with on-call rotations.
