Short Description

The Neuro Imaging Technologist will facilitate the growing technological demands of intricate neurosurgery and neurologic diagnostic and intervention procedures within the Neuro lab and hybrid surgical suite. This role will also encompass otorhinolaryngology cases and other services as required in the operating room.

This clinical and technical position involves hands-on engagement with various imaging and navigation systems (including Brain lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vision Sense, VTI) that assist surgeons during complex head and spine operations, as well as ultrasound and injector technologies utilized for vascular and neurologic diagnostic procedures and interventions. The technologist will evaluate the technological requirements for the day based on scheduled procedures and ensure the readiness of equipment. They will proactively manage schedules, identifying needs and conflicts related to technology. Pre-procedure tasks will include preparing images for reference during procedures. Intra-procedural responsibilities encompass operating specialized equipment and ensuring familiarity with specific supplies for diagnostic and interventional procedures. Post-procedure duties involve managing data from navigation systems and overseeing equipment within the physical space, including folders and databases. The technologist is also responsible for monitoring inventory and replacing specialized supplies. This role significantly contributes to the successful execution of surgical, diagnostic, and interventional procedures, including troubleshooting complex equipment during operations, allowing surgeons to maintain focus on patient care and minimizing scheduling conflicts.

Responsibilities

  • Operate radiology equipment using appropriate techniques and patient positioning to produce high-quality images.
  • Maintain radiology equipment, troubleshoot service issues, and communicate any concerns to incoming staff.
  • Greet patients, introduce oneself, and interact with patients to build trust and ensure their comfort. Explain procedures to patients prior to examinations.
  • Perform procedures in accordance with established protocols and monitor patient status, tolerance, well-being, and safety throughout and after procedures.
  • Always verify patient identity before examinations and prepare the room for procedures prior to patient arrival.
  • Assist radiologists, physicians, and other team members in completing procedures according to applicable protocols.
  • Respond to emergency situations in accordance with department and hospital policies.
  • Ensure patient safety using binders and safety aids at all times.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing in line with section protocols.
  • Operate ancillary equipment necessary for examinations and address patient needs.
  • Stay updated with new technologies and procedures consistent with section protocols.
  • Support neurosurgery and ENT operating room cases utilizing Stealth and Brain Lab Systems, Fusion, Vision Sense, and VTI.
  • Prepare neuro/oto cases by loading and merging images across multiple systems and performing pre-use checks on all imaging equipment.
  • Intraoperatively, perform registration routines (computerized mapping of the surgical site) and merge mapping with previous scans to finalize the imaging plan.
  • Save and maintain a repository for stealth scans, download and manage a database of videos and images from various systems, and edit images/videos as necessary.
  • Perform post-processing for all angio/interventional procedures and ensure appropriate data storage.
  • Troubleshoot and assist surgeons with technical issues related to systems and cases.
Experience Required

Seeking candidates with over 1 year of experience as a Neuro Imaging Technologist.

0-2 years of experience required.

Experience in scrubbing and assisting physicians during neurovascular interventions.

Education Requirements

High School/GED and an Associate's degree from an AMA-approved program for Diagnostic Radiology.

License/Certification Requirements

BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required, along with an American Registry Radiology Tech license and a NJ Radiology Tech License.

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Proficient in various imaging, ultrasound, and neuro navigation systems, such as Siemens, Sonosite, Power Injector, Brain lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vision Sense, and VTI.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
