Job Overview

The Neuro Imaging Technologist will play a crucial role in supporting the technological demands of intricate neurosurgery and neurologic diagnostic and intervention procedures within the Neuro lab and hybrid surgical suite. This position will also assist with Otorhinolaryngology cases and other services as required in the operating room.

This hands-on clinical and technical role involves operating various imaging and navigation systems (such as Brain Lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vision Sense, and VTI) that aid surgeons during complex head and spine operations, as well as utilizing ultrasound and injector technology for vascular and neurologic diagnostic procedures. The technologist will assess daily technology requirements based on scheduled procedures and ensure all equipment is prepared and operational. They will manage schedules proactively, identifying potential conflicts and needs for technology. Pre-procedure tasks include preparing images for reference during procedures, while intra-procedural responsibilities encompass operating specialized equipment and managing necessary supplies. Post-procedure duties involve data management and inventory oversight of specialized supplies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate radiology equipment with precision, ensuring high-quality imaging through proper techniques and patient positioning.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot radiology equipment, coordinating service calls as needed and communicating issues to incoming staff.
  • Engage with patients to build trust and provide support, explaining procedures prior to examinations.
  • Monitor patient status and safety throughout the procedure, ensuring compliance with protocols.
  • Assist radiologists and medical teams in completing procedures according to established guidelines.
  • Respond to emergencies in accordance with departmental policies.
  • Conduct quality assurance testing in line with section protocols.
  • Utilize ancillary equipment to support examinations and patient care.
  • Stay updated on new technologies and procedures relevant to the role.
  • Support neurosurgery and ENT operating room cases utilizing advanced navigation systems.
  • Prepare neuro/oto cases by loading and merging images in multiple systems and conducting pre-use checks of imaging equipment.
  • Perform registration routines during procedures, merging mapping with previous scans to finalize imaging plans.
  • Maintain a repository for scans and manage data storage for images and videos from various systems.
  • Assist surgeons with technical issues related to imaging systems during procedures.
Experience and Qualifications

We are seeking candidates with a minimum of 1 year of experience as a Neuro Imaging Technologist.

0-2 years of experience required, with prior experience in assisting physicians during neurovascular interventions preferred.

Educational Requirements

High School/GED and an Associate's degree from an AMA-approved Diagnostic Radiology program.

Licensure and Certification

BLS certification from the American Heart Association is required, along with a valid American Registry Radiology Tech license and NJ Radiology Tech License.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Proficient in operating multiple imaging, ultrasound, and neuro navigation systems, including Siemens, Sonosite, Power Injector, Brain Lab, Stealth, Fusion, Vision Sense, and VTI.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with patients, visitors, and colleagues.
Special Requirements

This position is PRN and requires flexibility in scheduling.
