Cybersecurity Engineer

Company Overview

KBR is in search of a dedicated and proactive individual who thrives in a dynamic and demanding setting as a cybersecurity engineer. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders within the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC).

Role Overview

The selected candidate will represent our organization with integrity, adhering to industry best practices and delivering exceptional results that foster client trust. You will be an integral part of a team that aids Air Force Security Control Assessors (SCA) and Authorizing Officials (AO) in evaluating and enhancing cybersecurity measures for Air Force systems and applications transitioning to cloud environments, developed in Agile methodologies, or addressing enterprise IT modernization needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enhance cybersecurity protocols for Air Force software development environments.
  • Work collaboratively with Air Force initiatives to ensure the security of applications and infrastructure within a DevSecOps framework.
  • Support the cybersecurity efforts of various Air Force networks, systems, and applications as required.
  • Conduct thorough vulnerability assessments and risk evaluations of existing and upcoming networks, infrastructures, and applications.
  • Perform essential cybersecurity analyses and apply technical risk management principles to evaluate applications and systems.
  • Review relevant documentation to confirm that established security standards are properly implemented and maintained.
  • Assist in the Risk Management Framework (RMF) Assessment and Authorization (A&A) processes, contributing to successful Authority to Operate (ATO) outcomes.
  • Provide Authorization Recommendations to Security Control Assessors (SCA) and Authorizing Officials (AO).
  • Execute additional responsibilities as assigned.
  • Willingness to travel up to 5% may be necessary.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • DoDM IAM Level III Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) certification is mandatory.
  • Knowledge of DoD Instructions, NIST SP 800-53, AFI 17-101, and the Risk Management Framework is essential.
  • Experience with A&A processes, authorization requirements, and SCA/AO protocols is required.
  • Must possess a DoD Secret Security Clearance upon hire and maintain it. U.S. Citizenship is a prerequisite.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Possession of an active DoD Top Secret Clearance at the time of hire is preferred.
  • ISC2 Certified Cloud Security Professional (CCSP) certification is advantageous.
  • The ideal candidate will have experience with one or more of the following areas:
    • Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), Software as a Service (SaaS)
    • DevSecOps methodologies
    • Software application development
    • Cloud technologies (e.g., AWS, Azure)
    • Virtualization technologies (e.g., VMware)
    • Containerization (e.g., Kubernetes)
    • Red Team operations and penetration testing
