Position Overview
As a Junior Engineer within the Rail Water Resources division, you will engage in a variety of engineering tasks focused on hydrologic and hydraulic assessments for Class I Railroad initiatives. Your responsibilities will include assisting in the development of foundational plan production, preparing technical documentation, reviewing CAD schematics, and securing necessary permits for water resource projects. This position plays a vital role in generating innovative ideas and crafting designs that deliver effective, high-quality solutions to meet engineering and design challenges.
Key Responsibilities:
- Contributes small-scale design components for engineering projects utilizing fundamental knowledge and established methodologies for small to medium-sized projects.
- Engages in basic plan production while receiving guidance for required tasks.
- Develops and utilizes knowledge and experience with design and modeling software.
- Assists in the preparation of project documentation and timelines, and performs design calculations within a defined scope.
- Collaborates with seasoned engineers and designers on complex techniques and procedures.
- Conducts research, proposes solutions, and drafts technical reports using prescribed methodologies.
- Mentors student interns by providing opportunities to develop essential technical skills and knowledge.
- Gains experience in managing project and client information within the firm's project management system.
- May oversee student staff.
Field travel is necessary for site reconnaissance across diverse terrains and weather conditions.

- A minimum of one year of relevant engineering experience.
- Possession of an Engineer Intern certificate (EI).
- Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, GIS, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, or other related hydrologic and hydraulic software is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal, problem-solving, communication (both verbal and written), and decision-making skills.
- Advanced mathematical and analytical capabilities.
- A valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
- A willingness to adapt to a flexible work schedule.
