Position Overview:

The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant in Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology. This role is situated within the Simmons Comprehensive Cancer Center, a prestigious institution recognized as a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center.

Role Responsibilities:

The Advanced Practice Provider will engage in a hybrid model, conducting both shared and independent consultations within the GI Surgical Oncology clinic, which specializes in managing patients with high acuity and complexity.

The ideal candidate will embody a commitment to our mission and take pride in delivering exceptional patient care within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree or higher in nursing, with documentation of completion from an accredited Advanced Practice Education Program.
  • Graduation from a Master's degree or higher from an Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) accredited program.
  • Licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by the Texas State Board of Nursing, with authorization for prescriptive authority.
  • Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification from the American Heart Association or Red Cross, in accordance with institutional policies.
Key Duties:

The Physician Assistant will:

  • Conduct and document comprehensive initial and ongoing physical assessments tailored to patient age and diagnosis, including psychological evaluations.
  • Synthesize clinical data and apply evidence-based practices to develop, implement, and assess patient care plans, including the ordering and interpretation of diagnostic studies.
  • Exhibit proficiency in technical and procedural skills relevant to the specialty.
  • Provide essential management, referrals, counseling, and education to patients and their families regarding current care and preventive health strategies.
  • Engage in quality improvement initiatives through organized group processes, workshops, and staff meetings aimed at enhancing clinical and system performance.
  • Collaborate on research projects and protocols, identifying opportunities for departmental policy and procedural enhancements.
