Role of the Oncology Infusion Registered Nurse (RN)


Under minimal supervision, the Oncology Infusion RN is responsible for delivering professional nursing care to patients, adhering to established standards and guidelines.

The role requires a thorough understanding of the physiological, psychological, and developmental needs of patients across various age groups, including adolescents, adults, and the elderly.

The RN collaborates with an interdisciplinary team to assess and manage the needs of patients and their families, while also ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate care plans in accordance with established protocols.
  • Assess patient and family needs, providing education and instructional materials as necessary.
  • Prepare and administer therapies under the supervision of a physician.
  • Administer medications and blood products accurately, following the correct protocols.
  • Ensure that pre-authorization and consent forms are completed prior to therapy administration.
  • Facilitate dose adjustments by evaluating patient conditions, lab results, and treatment protocols.
  • Perform venipuncture and manage central line access.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of patient care and treatments.
  • Apply knowledge of billing procedures and ensure proper charge capture.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate for the Oncology Infusion RN position will possess the following qualifications:

  • Graduation from an accredited nursing program; BSN preferred.
  • 0-3 years of RN experience; entry-level candidates are encouraged to apply.
  • Current RN state license in the practicing state.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
