RESOURCE SPECIALIST INSTRUCTOR

POSITION SUMMARY

The role of a special education instructor within the ICEF family is unique and rewarding. You will have the opportunity to learn and grow alongside dedicated and passionate special education professionals who believe that equitable access is essential for building effective and comprehensive programs for students with disabilities. We are committed to equipping educators with the necessary tools to deliver high-quality services to our students with disabilities. This commitment has led us to develop a collaborative approach involving teachers, school psychologists, paraprofessionals, school administrators, and all other service providers involved in our educational delivery model.

As a learning organization, we prioritize the coaching of our special education instructors in compliance, program development, and collaboration. At ICEF, we believe that the inclusion of our educators within our learning community is vital to ensuring the success of our students.

REPORTS TO: School Principal

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Instruct students with special learning needs in various subject areas, enhancing their confidence and character while inspiring a passion for learning.
  • Utilize an adopted curriculum and instructional guidelines to create lesson plans and teaching outlines aimed at addressing student eligibility.
  • Employ diverse specialized methodologies to provide instruction and assist other instructional personnel, including remedial instruction and hands-on activities.
  • Analyze and evaluate the history and background of students with learning disabilities, assisting instructional personnel in their assessment.
  • Design educational programs tailored to individual learning needs and assist in implementing various educational processes.
  • Individualize instructional methods and adapt delivery systems as necessary.
  • Manage compliance with accommodations and modifications for students with IEPs in the general education classroom.
  • Provide individual and group instruction to remediate learning disabilities while effectively utilizing available instructional time.
  • Implement a variety of behavior management strategies, including positive reinforcement and behavior modification techniques.
  • Assist in coordinating the individual education program planning team.
  • Evaluate student academic, behavioral, and social growth, recording and reporting progress while recommending changes to individual educational programs.
  • Prepare, administer, score, and record results of assessments to evaluate student growth.
  • Communicate with parents and instructional personnel regarding student progress and the interpretation of individual educational programs.
  • Support students in a mainstream classroom instructional program.
  • Utilize a variety of instructional skills and methods, adapting to accommodate student needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree preferred.
  • Possession of a valid teaching credential or permit required for the assigned role.
  • Desire to teach in an urban school environment.
  • Ability to manage student behavior effectively.
  • Demonstrated success working with students from educationally underserved areas.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: Frequent local travel may be required for trainings or workshops. This position will work in a shared office space and will frequently visit school sites. Physical demands may include some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, as well as some climbing and balancing. Generally, the job requires a mix of sitting, walking, and standing. The job is performed under minimal temperature variations and may involve some exposure to risk of injury or illness.

EDUCATION:

Required: Bachelor's Degree in any field; Preliminary Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential or Teacher Intern Credential.

Preferred: Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, or a related field; Clear Mild to Moderate Education Specialist Credential; Master's Degree in Special Education.
