Education Unlimited is seeking dedicated individuals to join our team as Creative Writing Educators for our summer programs aimed at students in grades 4-12. Our enriching summer camps offer a variety of academic experiences, including writing workshops, public speaking, and leadership development.
Available Roles:
We are looking for instructors for both online and on-campus formats:
- Virtual Instructors: Conduct classes remotely through platforms like Zoom and Google Classroom, engaging with small groups of 6-8 students. All necessary teaching materials will be provided, and instructors must ensure they have a reliable internet connection and a quiet environment for effective teaching.
- On-Site Instructors: Positions are available at various prestigious universities. These roles include accommodation and meals, and some local commuter options may also be available.
Course Offerings:
Instructors will have the opportunity to teach one or more of the following writing courses:
- High School Academic Writing: Focused on helping students synthesize information and craft compelling argumentative essays.
- Middle School Reading/Writing: Engaging students in critical thinking and creative writing through literature and hands-on activities.
- Creative Writing for Grades 7-9: Encouraging young writers to explore various genres and develop their unique voices through workshops and seminars.
- Creative Writing for Grades 10-12: Providing an immersive experience that challenges students to refine their writing skills across multiple genres.
Key Responsibilities:
The primary role of the Creative Writing Educator is to facilitate student learning through our established curriculum. Responsibilities include:
- Delivering engaging lessons tailored to small class sizes.
- Providing individualized feedback to students during one-on-one sessions.
- Organizing and leading a showcase event at the conclusion of the program.
- Maintaining records of student progress and submitting necessary reports.
Additional Duties for On-Campus Instructors:
On-campus instructors are expected to assist with supervision and recreational activities, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students. Responsibilities may also include:
- Mentoring students and guiding them during field trips.
- Collaborating with fellow staff members to enhance the camp experience.
- Participating in administrative tasks as needed.
Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in writing and education, including:
- A minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in writing at the appropriate educational level.
- A Bachelor's degree in a relevant field; an MFA is preferred.
- Proficiency in teaching various writing genres.
- A calm demeanor and strong organizational skills.
- A genuine passion for education and fostering student growth.
