Position: Family Reconciliation Services Social Worker

Organization: Cocoon House

Cocoon House is dedicated to collaborating with young individuals, families, and communities in Snohomish County to disrupt the cycle of homelessness through outreach, housing solutions, and preventive measures. The Family Reconciliation Services (FRS) Social Worker plays a crucial role in assisting youth and families during crises and facilitating reunification efforts. As a member of the Family Engagement Team, the FRS Social Worker will undertake intakes, assessments, and service planning in conjunction with DCYF.

Key Responsibilities:

Full-Time: Monday-Friday | On-site in Everett

Salary Range: $62,000 - $70,000 | Additional $1.50/hr for multilingual capabilities with relevant documentation

  • Engage with youth or parents within 24 hours of receiving a referral or service request to provide support and conduct an intake.
  • Deliver crisis intervention to help de-escalate situations involving youth or family members, preparing them for service engagement.
  • Conduct comprehensive family assessments to identify cultural values, strengths, risks, and needs for reconciliation.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team at the request of youth or their parents, including educators, family therapists, healthcare providers, and other community support members to facilitate reconciliation efforts.
  • Perform CSEC screenings if there are indications of youth being at risk.
  • Make mandated reports to CPS when there are concerns of abuse or neglect.
  • Develop a tailored service plan with youth and/or parents based on the family assessment findings.
  • Refer youth and/or parents with complex behavioral health needs to suitable resources.
  • Assist youth and/or parents facing substance use disorder challenges by connecting them to appropriate treatment resources.
  • Encourage youth and families to engage in their cultural traditions to foster resilience through cultural connections.
  • Support youth or parents in filing a CHINS or ARY if deemed necessary for stability and reconciliation.
  • Transfer FRS cases to the department when a CHINS petition is required.
  • Provide leadership within the Prevention team regarding best practices for working with parents.
  • Enhance staff knowledge around family engagement and prevention work across Cocoon House programs.
  • Assist the Director of Family Engagement in training staff on effective family engagement practices.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to Cocoon House's equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts.
  • This role offers a flexible work schedule, including some evening hours and at least one weekend each month.

Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field with three years of relevant experience preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or a related field with two years of relevant experience required.
  • Relevant experience may substitute for educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent development, family conflict resolution, and strength-based approaches to reconciliation.
  • Experience in ongoing risk assessment and routine social service functions.
  • Knowledge of child welfare and juvenile justice systems, particularly their impact on diverse communities.
  • Previous experience working with diverse and historically underserved populations.
  • Strong communication skills and proficiency in crisis intervention techniques.
  • Familiarity with street culture and strengths-based approaches is preferred.
  • Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is preferred.
Conditions of Employment:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • DCYF background clearance is required.
  • Acceptable driving record with no more than two violations in the last three years.
  • Must possess a valid driver's license, auto insurance, and reliable transportation.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all clients.
  • Must be able to hear alarms and voices.
  • Ability to read and comprehend various materials.
  • Proficient in using a phone, computer, and maintaining records.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to navigate stairs quickly in emergency situations.
