The Youth Justice Support Specialist will engage with adolescents and young adults facing homelessness, particularly those under 18, to assist them in navigating various systems, coordinating service delivery, and providing comprehensive support throughout their journey towards stable housing. This role will involve close collaboration with the local Juvenile Justice system, primarily focusing on referrals from relevant juvenile facilities. The specialist will conduct outreach in diverse settings and with community partners to establish a caseload of approximately 20-30 young individuals currently experiencing homelessness or at significant risk of homelessness.

Key Responsibilities:

Full-Time: Monday-Friday | On-site in designated areas

Wage: $20-22/hr | Additional $1.50/hr for multilingual capabilities

  • Foster and maintain a professional, supportive rapport with youth involved in the juvenile justice system.
  • Deliver youth-centered case management focused on achieving stable housing, providing ongoing support until housing stability is attained.
  • Identify and connect youth with necessary supports, both informal and formal, ensuring coordinated care.
  • Collaborate effectively with Cocoon House programs to guarantee seamless service delivery to youth and young adults.
  • Cultivate strong partnerships with community organizations, particularly those linked to the juvenile justice system, and promote Cocoon House initiatives.
  • Complete all required documentation and data entry accurately and promptly.
  • Participate in necessary meetings and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with research initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience working directly with teens and young adults facing homelessness.
  • Familiarity with the Juvenile Justice System.
  • Commitment to serving diverse populations and fostering an inclusive environment.
  • Strong advocacy for LGBTQ and Communities of Color, or other historically marginalized groups.
  • Understanding of racial equity and a commitment to combating institutional racism.
  • Excellent communication skills, including crisis intervention and de-escalation techniques.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage paperwork effectively.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed care, positive youth development, and motivational interviewing is preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Individuals with lived experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation are required.
  • Ability to pass a background check.

Working Conditions:

  • Ability to sit for extended periods, move about an office, and stand occasionally.
  • Fine motor skills to operate a keyboard and handle paperwork.
  • Occasional lifting of materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Close vision required for reading documents and computer screens.
  • Ability to hear and communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
  • Capacity to make decisions and concentrate under pressure.
