Patient Care Technician/Clerical Support Specialist

The Patient Care Technician/Clerical Support Specialist operates under the direct guidance of a Registered Nurse. This role involves delivering essential care to designated patients, executing basic treatments, and offering bedside assistance. The Technician monitors patients for any changes in their condition and communicates these observations effectively. Additionally, the role includes maintaining cleanliness and organization in patient and work areas, fostering teamwork, and ensuring a safe environment for both patients and staff.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of this position may encompass, but are not limited to:
- Assisting the Registered Nurse with the care of assigned patients in accordance with established protocols.
- Accurately measuring and recording vital signs, including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Documenting patient care and vital statistics in the Hospital Information System.
- Conducting EKG tests.
- Ensuring the overall comfort, welfare, and safety of patients.
- Performing clerical duties as required.
- Keeping the patient care area and equipment in a clean and orderly state.
- Responding promptly to patient call lights and providing necessary support.
- Undertaking additional tasks as assigned by Management.
Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma
- Nurse Aide certification or equivalent
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association
- Completion of a training course in acute care skills
- Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the day
- Capability to lift and transport patients
- Visual and auditory acuity
Preferred:
- Prior experience in EKG and clerical support roles
Additional Information
Applicants are required to submit a resume/CV with their online application. Stony Brook Medicine maintains a smoke-free environment, prohibiting smoking on campus, including parking lots and outdoor areas. All hospital positions may be subject to changes in scheduled days and shifts as necessary. Night shift differentials are available. This position may necessitate the use of respiratory protection, which may restrict the wearing of facial hair.
Prior to the start date, the selected candidate must fulfill the following requirements:
- Successfully complete a pre-employment physical examination and obtain medical clearance from Employee Health Services.
- Successfully complete a 4-panel drug screening.
- Meet all regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Provide copies of any required New York State licenses/certificates.
Failure to comply with any of the above requirements may result in a delayed start date or revocation of the employment offer.
