Position Overview

The Patient Care Technician operates under the direct oversight of a Registered Nurse, delivering essential care to designated patients, administering basic treatments, and providing bedside assistance. This role involves monitoring patients for any changes in their condition and effectively communicating observations. The Technician is also responsible for maintaining a tidy, organized, and well-stocked environment for both patients and staff, fostering a collaborative and safe atmosphere.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Registered Nurse in delivering nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with established protocols.
  • Accurately measure and document vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
  • Record patient care activities and vital statistics in the Hospital Information System.
  • Conduct EKG tests as required.
  • Ensure the comfort, welfare, and safety of patients at all times.
  • Perform ward clerk duties as necessary, including data entry, maintaining logs, and managing high call volumes.
  • Keep patient care areas and equipment clean and organized.
  • Respond promptly to patient call lights and provide necessary assistance.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification as a Nurse Aide or equivalent training.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • Completion of a training course in acute care skills.
  • Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Experience with EKG procedures.
  • Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday.
  • Capability to lift and transport patients safely.
  • Visual and auditory acuity.

Preferred:

  • Experience in an Emergency Department setting.
