Position Overview
The Patient Care Assistant operates under the close guidance of a Registered Nurse, delivering essential care to designated patients, administering basic treatments, and offering bedside support. This role involves monitoring patients for any changes in their condition and effectively communicating observations. The Patient Care Assistant is also responsible for maintaining a tidy, organized, and well-stocked environment for both patients and staff, fostering a collaborative atmosphere, and ensuring a safe setting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the Registered Nurse in providing nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with established protocols.
- Accurately measure and document vital signs including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
- Record patient care details and vital signs in the Hospital Information System.
- Conduct EKG tests as required.
- Ensure the comfort, welfare, and safety of patients at all times.
- Perform ward clerk duties as necessary, including data entry, maintaining logs, and managing high call volumes.
- Keep patient care areas and equipment clean and organized.
- Respond promptly to patient call lights and provide necessary assistance.
- Carry out additional tasks as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Nurse Aide or equivalent qualification.
- BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- Completion of a training course in acute care skills.
- Prior experience as a Nursing Assistant.
- Experience with EKG procedures.
- Ability to stand and walk for the majority of the workday.
- Capability to lift and transport patients safely.
- Visual and auditory acuity necessary for patient care.
Preferred:
- Experience in an Emergency Department setting.

Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Completion of a pre-employment physical examination and obtaining medical clearance.
- Passing a 4-panel drug screening.
- Meeting all regulatory requirements for pre-employment screenings.
- Providing copies of any necessary New York State licenses or certifications.
Failure to meet these requirements may result in a delayed start date or revocation of the employment offer.
