About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced **Business Development Leader** to join our team at Old Republic Surety Company. As a key member of our Home Office Underwriting Team, you will be responsible for leading our business development strategies, creating sales proficiency throughout the organization, and incorporating it into our underwriting culture to drive the Company's production efforts, increasing market share and enhancing profitability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the identification, evaluation, and negotiation of new business opportunities, partnerships, and client relationships by researching industry trends, participating in industry events, and making sales calls to current and prospective business partners.
  • Analyze short and long-term market strategies and propose business priorities, working closely with senior leadership to align business development efforts with the company's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing department on new market opportunities and emerging trends in the surety industry.
  • Lead and mentor Regional Vice Presidents in the annual development and ongoing execution of strategic business plans, reflecting individual accountability for high-payoff activities that lead to production, retention, profitability, and territory management.
  • Track and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of business development initiatives. Assist in developing sales activity management dashboards and collaborate with Regional Vice Presidents to maintain accountability and profitability.
  • Supervise direct reports, make recommendations for performance management and disciplinary action. Train subordinates to achieve goals. In addition, contribute to the new employee selection process.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree and a minimum of 10 years of surety business development experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft (MS) Windows and Office products.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, strong organizational and accurate proofreading skills, the ability to maintain accurate records, the ability to exercise discretion with confidential information, strong attention to detail, and the ability to use a variety of office equipment.
  • A valid driver's license and a motor vehicle operator's record that is considered satisfactory as defined by company and/or corporate procedures.
