Job Overview

POSITION: Mobile Compliance Specialist – Affordable Housing

COMPENSATION: In accordance with state regulations, the salary range for this position is $50,000 - $60,000, with additional bonus opportunities. Eligible candidates will have access to a comprehensive benefits package including health, vision, dental, and pet insurance. We also provide a 401(k) retirement plan, student loan assistance, reimbursement for licensing and continuing education, parental leave, and housing allowances or gifts.

REPORTS TO: Compliance Director – Affordable Housing

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a Mobile Compliance Specialist within the affordable housing sector, your primary responsibility is to safeguard, maintain, and enhance the value of the community. This is achieved by effectively supporting the onsite team in completing initial and annual compliance certifications. Key tasks include ensuring adherence to program documentation, as well as federal and state regulations.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Willingness to travel extensively, up to 95% of the time.
  • Exhibit a positive, professional demeanor and a client-focused attitude towards team members, residents, clients, and the public.
  • Assist communities with tenant documentation (initial and annual recertification) to ensure timely and accurate processing. Review supporting documents to verify income and expense sources and ensure correct completion of compliance forms.
  • Conduct regular onsite evaluations of tenant files to ensure compliance with program documentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform regular audits of move-ins/outs, recertifications, lease renewals, interim changes, denials, waitlists, and other compliance-related processes.
  • Generate and present regular summary reports highlighting policy adherence and areas for improvement. Maintain a tracking system for all reviewed files to assess overall compliance processes.
  • Ensure proper maintenance and confidentiality of all files.
  • Observe property operations while in the field, ensuring compliance with all relevant guidelines and regulations.
  • Draft correspondence, reports, and memoranda for management as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training regarding compliance programs and regulations.
  • Provide technical support to onsite Property Managers and staff in preparing compliance-related documentation.
  • Identify non-compliance issues and collaborate with supervisors to initiate corrective actions.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred.
  • 4-6 years of experience in property management or real estate preferred.
  • Exceptional attention to detail.
  • Strong time management abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Analytical, resourceful, and knowledgeable about affordable housing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with various stakeholders both verbally and in writing.
  • Proficient in composing written responses to management inquiries.
  • Knowledge of compliance programs, rules, and regulations.
  • Thorough understanding of HUD, LIHTC, TDHCA, TAA, and other affordable housing programs.
  • Ability to simplify complex compliance issues for clear understanding.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Google Suite.
  • Commitment to embodying the company's culture and core values.
