Job Overview

Position Objective:

The Clinical Support Specialist operates under the direction of the Clinic Manager, RN Case Manager, RN Team Lead, and/or Providers. This role is integral to the collaborative effort of delivering care and treatment to patients. The Specialist provides essential clinical support and technical assistance to the healthcare team. It is crucial for the individual to manage a demanding workload with precision. Exceptional customer service skills are necessary for interacting with patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Patient Interaction:
  • Ensures patient satisfaction by warmly greeting and proactively addressing patient needs.
  • Responds promptly to patient inquiries and requests.
  • Facilitates patient appointments and gathers all necessary information.
  • Maintains confidentiality of patient information both during and outside of work hours.
  • Communicates messages efficiently to the appropriate healthcare providers.
  • Engages in ongoing performance improvement initiatives.
  1. Clinical Duties:
  • Assists Providers during patient visits, which includes preparing patients, conducting interviews, recording vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, height, weight, and entering data into the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Conducts point-of-care laboratory tests and processes specimens for external laboratories.
  • Plans nursing care in accordance with agency policies and standard operating procedures when applicable.
  • Performs tasks delegated by the Provider in compliance with relevant medical boards.
  1. Administrative Tasks:
  • Maintains patient records as specified by each practitioner and in line with clinic policies.
  • Ensures effective communication and processing of medical calls.
  • Confirms patient appointments daily.
  • Participates in team meetings as assigned.
  • Orders and organizes patient medical records, imaging, lab results, etc., in preparation for visits.
  • Assists in scheduling patient appointments and making necessary referrals.
  • Handles administrative responsibilities, including completing forms, prior authorizations, prescription refills, and referrals.
  1. Safety and Infection Control:
  • Adheres strictly to Universal Precautions.
  • Conducts patient care in a manner that prioritizes safety and minimizes the risk of healthcare errors.
  • Follows safety protocols and reports incidents to the supervisor within 24 hours.
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of exam rooms, including restocking supplies.
  1. Professional Development:
  • Responsible for keeping knowledge, skills, and abilities current.
  • Participates in training sessions, staff meetings, continuing education, community events, and relevant webinars.

Education Requirements:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Qualifications:

Prior experience as a Clinical Support Specialist, preferably in a primary care environment.

Certification as a Clinical Support Specialist is preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is required.

Physical Requirements:
