Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Clinical Support Specialist operates under the direction of the Clinic Manager, RN Case Manager, RN Team Lead, and/or Providers. This role is integral to the collaborative approach in delivering care and treatment to patients. The specialist provides essential clinical assistance and technical support to the healthcare team. It is crucial for the individual to manage a demanding workload with precision. Exceptional customer service skills are required to engage effectively with patients and their families.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Interaction:

· Ensures patient satisfaction by warmly welcoming and proactively addressing patient needs.

· Responds promptly to patient inquiries and requests.

· Aids in scheduling patient appointments and gathers all necessary patient information.

· Maintains confidentiality of patient information both during and outside of work hours.

· Communicates messages efficiently to the relevant healthcare providers.

· Engages in continuous performance improvement initiatives.

2. Clinical Duties:

· Assists Providers during patient consultations, which includes preparing patients, collecting vital signs such as pulse, blood pressure, height, and weight, and documenting this information in the electronic health record (EHR).

· Conducts point-of-care laboratory tests and processes specimens for external laboratories.

· Develops nursing care plans in accordance with agency policies and standard operating procedures when applicable.

· Executes tasks assigned by the Provider in compliance with state medical and nursing regulations.

3. Administrative Functions:

· Maintains patient records as per each practitioner’s guidelines and Health Center policies.

· Facilitates effective communication and management of medical calls.

· Ensures daily appointment confirmations are completed.

· Participates in morning meetings as required.

· Retrieves and organizes patient medical records, imaging, laboratory results, etc., in preparation for office visits.

· Assists in scheduling patient appointments and making necessary referrals.

· Carries out administrative responsibilities, including completing forms, prior authorizations, prescription refills, and referrals.

4. Safety and Infection Control:

· Rigorously follows Universal Precautions.

· Provides patient care in a manner that maximizes safety and minimizes the risk of healthcare errors.

· Adheres to safety protocols and reports incidents to the supervisor within 24 hours.

· Maintains cleanliness and organization of examination rooms, including restocking supplies.

5. Professional Development:

· Committed to ongoing professional growth and skill enhancement.

· Participates in training sessions, staff meetings, continuing education opportunities, community events, and relevant webinars.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Skills and Experience:

Prior experience as a Medical Assistant, ideally in a primary care environment.

Certification as a Medical Assistant is preferred.

Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification is mandatory.

Physical Requirements:
