The Role:

The Building Systems Commissioning Expert will assist Chinook's clients by coordinating and delivering commissioning services throughout the facility planning, design, construction, warranty, and operational phases. This role will require the application of technical expertise to provide solutions to complex challenges. With guidance, the Commissioning Expert will achieve objectives and approaches to assignments and may oversee and review the work of other team members. Chinook Systems is renowned for excellence in our field, and the Commissioning Expert will uphold this reputation by being diligent, proactive, solutions-oriented, and a facilitator of success for both internal and external team members. This position offers a pathway to advance to a Commissioning Engineer and eventually to Project Manager roles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute commissioning services for new and existing buildings across multiple concurrent projects, under supervision.
  • Analyze and interpret RFPs, design and construction documents, standards, codes, scopes, and project deliverables.
  • Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, checklists, functional performance tests, and comprehensive reports.
  • Conduct design reviews, submittal assessments, training plan evaluations, and O&M manual reviews.
  • Perform site observations and witness functional performance testing.
  • Collaborate with senior staff to resolve coordination issues affecting equipment and systems startup and testing activities.
  • Ensure compliance with project requirements, commissioning plans, and contract documents.
  • Participate in internal and external project meetings and document meeting minutes.
  • Review technical reports for completeness and accuracy, including startup reports, checkout sheets, and test reports.
  • Facilitate the transition of systems to operational status and implement maintenance programs.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal staff and clients.
  • Assist in preparing project estimates, schedules, and work plans.
  • Conduct quality assurance on project deliverables and activities.
  • Support the preparation of invoices and related documentation.
  • Actively engage in the development of company processes and procedures.
  • Attend company meetings, training sessions, and functions.
  • Contribute to maintaining excellence at Chinook Systems.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an Engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited institution is preferred.
  • CxA, CCP, CBCP, or equivalent Commissioning Certification is required.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience in commissioning facility systems such as lighting, HVAC, power distribution, generation, power monitoring and controls, UPS, and emergency power is essential.
  • Experience in integrating mechanical systems with electrical, life safety, and security systems is desirable.
  • Proficient understanding of commissioning standards and practices, including LEED, ASHRAE, BCA, ACG, GSA.
  • Ability to initiate action, prioritize tasks, and perform work efficiently within defined budgets and schedules.
  • Experience with database management systems for commissioning and core business processes is a plus.
