Job Overview

Position Overview: The role is responsible for the upkeep and repair of municipal facilities, ensuring a safe and functional environment.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Independently performs maintenance tasks and makes informed decisions based on experience; duties may vary based on assignments and individual expertise.
  • Assesses material and equipment requirements for each project, adhering to procurement guidelines.
  • Diagnoses facility issues and maintenance challenges, proposing cost-effective solutions.
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on HVAC, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, and mechanical systems; repairs and restores interior and exterior structures as necessary.
  • Executes maintenance and repairs within authorized limits, following all safety protocols; escalates issues beyond authority to supervisors.
  • Maintains outdoor areas as required.
  • Operates specialized equipment safely, identifying and reporting mechanical, electrical, and plumbing issues that require professional intervention.
  • Adheres to safety precautions in all tasks performed.
  • Reports maintenance problems and urgent situations promptly.
  • Maintains accurate records of services rendered, including time and material costs.
  • Ensures compliance with safety regulations at work sites and maintains equipment in safe working order.
  • Handles hazardous materials according to established policies and procedures.
  • Work hours are Monday through Friday, with on-call responsibilities during weekends; must respond to service requests within specified timeframes.
  • Regular attendance is essential.
  • Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent; three years of experience in building maintenance or a combination of education and experience.

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid Texas Driver License with a satisfactory driving record.
  • Out-of-state applicants must provide a certified driving record and obtain a Texas Driver License.
  • Specific technical skills and certifications may be necessary.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Familiarity with city policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in tools and equipment used in advanced facilities maintenance.
  • Understanding of local, state, and federal building codes.
  • Knowledge of operation, maintenance, and safety standards for motorized equipment.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

  • Ability to operate and maintain tools and equipment safely and effectively.
  • Capability to prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Commitment to following safety standards.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain cooperative relationships with colleagues and the public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work is conducted both indoors and outdoors, often in varying weather conditions.
  • Must be able to lift 40 lbs. and maneuver 150 lbs.
  • Ability to climb ladders and operate various equipment safely.
  • Must be prepared to work in construction-type environments as needed.
  • Other responsibilities may be assigned as required.
