Position Overview: The University of Virginia is seeking dedicated full-time and part-time Advanced Practice Providers, specifically Neonatal Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, to enhance the Pediatric Neonatology department. Our Neonatal ICU is a prestigious level 4 tertiary center that provides exceptional care for critically ill infants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough assessments, diagnoses, and management of critically ill infants in a collaborative team environment.
  • Engage in team-based care delivery, including patient presentations during rounds and participation in high-risk deliveries.
  • Perform critical care procedures and provide overnight in-house coverage as required.
  • Educate medical students and residents, fostering a culture of learning and professional development.
  • Work alongside medical directors and interprofessional teams to ensure comprehensive patient care across various clinical settings.

Clinical Duties:

  • Utilize independent judgment for patient assessments and initiate appropriate medical processes and procedures.
  • Document comprehensive health histories and physical assessments, including emergency interventions when necessary.
  • Formulate diagnoses and communicate effectively with healthcare team members.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic studies in collaboration with peers.
  • Manage medications and treatments in compliance with state regulations.

Patient Interaction:

  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding treatment plans and disease processes.
  • Participate in on-call responsibilities as determined by departmental needs.
  • Ensure adherence to established policies and quality standards set by the Medical Director.

Professional Development:

  • Engage in continuing education opportunities to enhance clinical practice.
  • Participate in peer review activities and contribute to the clinical education of students and residents.
  • Promote the advanced practice group's professional practice through collaboration with nursing and allied health professionals.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Master's degree from an accredited nursing or physician assistant program.
  • Experience: Minimum of one to two years of NICU experience as an Advanced Practice Provider.
  • Licensure: Valid license as an Advanced Practice Provider in Virginia, with all necessary credentialing and certifications.

Physical Requirements: The role requires the ability to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive motions, and maintain effective communication skills. Candidates should be prepared for potential exposure to various clinical environments.
