Position Overview

The Culinary Services Supervisor role is situated within the Nutrition and Food Services division of the Veterans Health Administration.

The main objective of this position is to oversee and guide staff in various food service functions, which encompass food handling, preparation, storage, and delivery. This is a full-time role requiring 40 hours of work per week.

Key Responsibilities

This position is integral to the Nutrition and Food Services within the Veterans Health Administration. The primary responsibilities include leading and managing food service operations, which consist of food handling, preparation, storage, and delivery. Specific duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Supervising the production and service areas
  • Adjusting daily work assignments as necessary
  • Communicating tasks and information to team members
  • Reporting issues and events to management
  • Providing on-the-job training to junior food service staff and documenting their progress
  • Conducting safety and sanitation inspections
  • Ensuring proper setup of food production and service areas
  • Performing final checks on meal trays for temperature and accuracy
  • Monitoring employee performance and offering feedback
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and documenting relevant data
  • Executing additional related duties as assigned
  • Food service tasks include:
  • Setting up tray line stations with necessary supplies and food items
  • Serving food in a cafeteria-style setting
  • Cleaning and breaking down assigned stations
  • Arranging dining room tables for service
  • Delivering meal trays to patients and reporting feedback to supervisors
  • Preparing individual and bulk nourishment and supplemental items
  • Calculating ingredient quantities needed
  • Converting measurements between metric and standard systems
  • Performing thorough cleaning tasks in food service areas
  • Assisting cooks in food preparation
  • Completing other related duties as required
Work Schedule: Rotating schedule including shifts from early morning to evening, with specific days off every three weeks.

Physical Requirements: The role involves light to heavy physical work, including lifting and moving objects, as well as frequent standing, walking, and bending.

  • Background/security investigation is necessary
  • Compliance with vaccination programs for seasonal influenza and COVID-19 is required
Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must demonstrate relevant experience and skills that align with the responsibilities outlined.

Experience: While a specific length of experience is not mandated, candidates must provide evidence of training or experience that supports their capability to perform the duties of this role.

Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours per week. Part-time experience will be credited based on actual hours worked.

Additional Information

Participation in vaccination programs is a requirement for all personnel in the Veterans Health Administration.
