POSITION SUMMARY

The Client Empowerment Advocate plays a crucial role in supporting clients to reach their fullest potential across various life skills. This position is integral to the evidence-based Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, focusing on assisting clients in securing and maintaining employment aligned with their career aspirations. Drawing from personal experiences, the Advocate will mentor participants who prioritize employment as a key goal, facilitating access to essential support services, including behavioral health resources, housing assistance, and other fundamental needs.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Establishes supportive and trusting relationships with participants, guiding them towards competitive employment opportunities in inclusive job environments.
  • Acts as a mentor to clients and their families, fostering empowerment and hope by sharing personal recovery experiences to build rapport and trust.
  • Provides valuable insights and guidance to staff members from a mental health consumer perspective, enhancing empathy and professional effectiveness.
  • Educates clients on stigma and strategies to combat it, advocating for their rights and informing them about grievance procedures.
  • Offers educational support to family members, helping them understand the recovery process.
  • Serves as a liaison between the team and consumer-led programs, encouraging clients to engage with these resources.
  • Delivers ongoing, hands-on support related to skills development, including navigating community resources to meet basic needs and health requirements.
  • Facilitates outreach services for clients showing signs of disengagement from IPS services, maintaining contact even when vocational focus is not present.
  • Assists participants in utilizing technology resources available in the program's tech lab.
  • Collaborates regularly with team members to enhance vocational services.
  • Engages clients in all aspects of the program, ensuring their active involvement.
  • Demonstrates a positive attitude and professionalism while working collaboratively with clients and staff.
  • Supports clients in developing life skills while maintaining appropriate boundaries between therapeutic and social interactions.
  • Maintains an information tracking system as directed by the Program Manager.
  • Contributes to the overall management of the center, including performing assigned errands.
  • Completes all responsibilities within designated timeframes and according to established standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Peer Specialist Certification is preferred.
  • A High School Diploma or GED is required.
  • Personal experience in mental health or substance use disorder recovery, or as a family member, is essential, along with a willingness to share this experience.
  • A valid driver's license and current auto insurance are required.
  • Cultural competency is necessary; bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and electronic health record software is advantageous.
