Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Peer serves as a vital link to Individual and Family Support Services, assisting children enrolled in the Health Team. With family consent, this role acts as an organizer, information provider, guide, advocate, and facilitator, helping families assess their strengths and needs, set treatment goals, and navigate the treatment landscape. Emphasizing the use of informal, natural community supports, the Family Peer aids health home enrollees and their families. Regular interaction with the Health Team and treatment providers is essential to effectively assess and address mental, emotional, or substance abuse challenges, including issues related to alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs. Responsibilities may include crisis intervention under professional supervision, client advocacy, and educational outreach.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as a liaison for families, connecting them with the Department of Human Services (DHS), courts, hospitals, schools, and other necessary community services.
  • Facilitate communication between the Health Team and various community services and organizations.
  • Provide transportation for families and children to essential appointments and activities.
  • Organize and lead parent and youth support groups, fostering active participation.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions.
  • Exemplify positive role modeling in interactions with clients and their families.
  • Document activities and observations promptly and accurately.
  • Participate in group outings, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients and their families.
  • Maintain core competencies in working with co-occurring disorders through ongoing education and skill application.
  • Develop and sustain effective relationships with consumers, staff, and community organizations.
  • Build partnerships with relevant local, state, and federal agencies.
  • Promote community education initiatives to raise awareness about Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Acute Mental Health Crises.
  • Assist in the development and facilitation of Care Plans for consumers within the Red Rock Health Team.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Personal experience as a caregiver for a child, youth, or young adult facing mental health or behavioral challenges is essential.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Valid Oklahoma Driver's License is required.
  • Reliable transportation and proof of insurance are necessary.
  • Completion of the following training is required at the start of employment:
    1. Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) Wrap 101 Training.
  • Previous experience in a mental health setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Commitment to the mission of Red Rock Behavioral Health Services is essential.
