Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY

The Family Peer serves a vital role in connecting families to Individual and Family Support Services, ensuring that children involved with the Health Team receive the necessary assistance. With the family's consent, this position acts as an organizer, source of information, guide, advocate, and facilitator, helping families assess their strengths and needs, set treatment goals, and navigate the treatment landscape. The Family Peer emphasizes leveraging informal, natural community supports as a primary strategy to assist health home enrollees and their families. Regular interaction with other staff, including the Health Team and treatment providers, is essential for assessing and addressing the needs of individuals facing mental, emotional, or substance use challenges.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates communication between families and various agencies, including the Department of Human Services (DHS), courts, hospitals, and schools.
  • Acts as a bridge between the Health Team and community services, enhancing collaboration.
  • Provides transportation for families and children to necessary appointments and services.
  • Organizes and promotes parent and youth support groups, fostering active participation.
  • Attends required meetings and contributes to discussions regarding family needs.
  • Serves as a role model in interactions with clients and their families.
  • Completes necessary documentation to track activities and observations promptly.
  • Participates in group outings, ensuring the safety and well-being of clients and their families.
  • Maintains and enhances competencies related to co-occurring disorders through ongoing education and practical application.
  • Develops and sustains effective relationships with consumers, staff, and community organizations.
  • Builds rapport with local, state, and federal agencies to support family needs.
  • Promotes community awareness initiatives focused on Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Acute Mental Health Crises.
  • Assists in the development and facilitation of Care Plans for clients within the Red Rock Health Team.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess lived experience as a caregiver for a child, youth, or young adult facing mental health or behavioral challenges.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills are essential.
  • A valid Oklahoma Driver's License is required.
  • Reliable transportation and proof of insurance are necessary.
  • Completion of the following training is required at the start of employment:
    1. Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services (ODMHSAS) Wrap 101 Training.
  • Previous experience in a mental health setting is preferred.
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Commitment to the mission of Red Rock Behavioral Health Services is essential.
